Stay Clean and Smelling Fresh During Your Periods

Did you just get your very first period? Maybe you've had it for years, but you hate the awful stench. Either way, you can smell good on your period.

Steps

  1. Stay Clean and Smelling Fresh on Your Period Step 1.jpg
    1
Wash your vulva twice a day. Your vulva is the area around your vagina. Don't wash the actual vagina, unless your doctor says so because it could lead to infection.

Get rid of vagina hair. Take a steam shower.Wax or use a "bikini line" hair removal cream. If you don't want to get rid of it completely grab a pair of safety scissors and cut off any hair sticking out. Be careful about this;it may make you more likely to get infections. If you are prone to yeast infections, ask a doctor first.

Buy some baby wipes. These will help get rid of odour. These are made for a infant's sensitive skin so they will not sting. Make sure they are odourless and discontinue use if they burn, itch, sting, or you get a infection.

Change your pad/tampon often. Avoid changing too often, though, as that's just a waste. Carry extras with you wherever you go! If you leak get pantyliners or night pads.

Wear cotton underwear. Cotton is breathable. Also, don't wear thongs during your period.

Wear clean clothes at all times. Wash your clothes with the same amount of detergent as always and always have a spare pair of undies in your school bag or purse.

Tips

  • Some women notice they sweat more on their periods. Be sure to shower and use deodorant.
  • Never use scented pads, they can lead to infection.
  • If you want to shave don't use the same razor you use for your legs and underarms, buy a new one.
  • Use mild soap for your vulva.
  • Period cups may work better than a pad or tampon. They can be worn for 12 hours, are better, and much safer. They can be worn while in the water or while sleeping.

Warnings

  • Beware of TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) when wearing tampons (very rare but also very deadly).
  • Always check for red stains on your bed sheets or blankets and pants.
